There are so many islands in Thailand, there is something for everyone. Do you want to relax and soak up the sunshine? Or do you want to explore the most beautiful coral reefs? Are you looking to dance the night away? Thailand’s islands have all of that to offer and more, but most importantly the islands still share factors that make them uniquely Thai. Read more about it below!
Koh Samui
Koh Samui is one of the more popular islands of Thailand, it is also the second largest. The usual crowds that go to Koh Samui range from backpackers, honeymooners to families. This island used to have a reputation for its crazy full-moon parties and beach raves but now it is leaning more towards a refined sense of luxury. There are a few amazing resorts and luxurious hotels right on the pristine beaches, each one with their own world-class spas and restaurants.
Koh Phangan
Many travelers head to the islands in Thailand for the full moon, half-moon and black-moon parties. Ko Phangan is the island to be at if you want to experience one of these parties for yourself, it is the party capital of Thailand.
Koh Tao
Everyone who loves diving should make sure to head to Koh Tao as it is one of the best dive locations in the world, for both professionals and beginners. For the beginners, you can get your open water certifications at a dive school and after getting qualified go on ocean dives through the stunning coral reefs, swimming with the marine life.
Koh Lipe
Some would say that Koh Lipe has Thailand’s most magnificent beaches. It is a small island, you can discover it fully on foot. Make sure to head to Hat Pramong (translates to Sunset Beach) to admire the gorgeous sunset one evening.
Koh Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi is an archipelago with 6 of the most photogenic islands, with Koh Phi Phi Don or Koh Phi Phi Le being the 2 of the more popular out of the 6. Out of the 2, Koh Phi Phi Don is the more lively one and tends to be popular with backpackers and party people. Koh Phi Phi Le is more understated which is ideal for a beach filled day trip.
Koh Yao Islands: Koh Yao Yai & Koh Yao Noi
Since there are so many islands in Thailand, there are also a fair number of islands that are not as well known. The Koh Yao Islands offers a more peaceful vibe, here you’ll find laid-back fishing villages rather than bustling beach-clubs. You can explore the rice paddies with a scooter or discover hidden coves here.
Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta offers everything, gorgeous beaches, incredible diving, and lovely resorts – spread out over the two islands (Koh Lanta Yai & Koh Lanta Noi). A perfect get away for a family with people of different ages, as there is something for everyone.
Koh Samet
Tucked away from the crowds, Koh Samet is in a national marine park which means that it is home to a wide array of wildlife. Go for a dive in the vibrant coral reefs or try out some of the water sports offered. A true hidden gem!
