The weather is getting colder and colder, at least in central Europe. Soon we’ll see the icy frosts when we wake up in the mornings and leaving the house will be more and more difficult. For those who are looking to escape the cold storms of January, we have gathered some of the most relaxing (and most importantly, sunny) beaches to head to.
1. Carilo, Argentina
Just a 3-hour drive heading south from Buenos Aires, this area is filled with lush pine forests and blissful beaches. There are also some very nice hangout places like Parador Neruda which is a waterfront seafood restaurant and spa. There is also a lofted wood walkway through the forest canopy at Bosque Aereo Carilo that you can traverse with a harness! Or how about a reiki massage? There are plenty of things to do while visiting Carilo!
2. Waimea Bay Beach Park, Oahu, Hawaii
This might be an interesting location to visit for those who are big fans of surfing. This beach was where big wave surfing started in the 1950’s, and it is still one of the coolest places to watch professional surfers ride waves of up to 10 meters! There are also some cliff jumping spots for those seeking some adrenaline. But for those who prefer calmer activities, you can visit the centuries-old temples at Pu’u O Mahuka Heiau State Historic Site or explore the gorgeous gardens and waterfall in Waimea valley. Most importantly, in January the average high temperature in Oahu is over 26 degrees Celsius.
3. Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica
In Costa Rica, January is the dry season, considered to be summer. Manuel Antonio National Park is fascinating, first because of its incredible wildlife with 184 species of birds and 109 mammals. The beach is crescent shaped and encircled a hidden cove.
4. Byron Bay, Australia
Byron Bay is filled with gorgeous beaches, perfect surfing locations, eating delicious foods and lazy afternoons. You can also climb the 19th-century Cape Byron Lighthouse for a different kind of activity. There are also workshops on sustainable agriculture at The Farm, one of the favorites is a class on beekeeping!
5. Ko Phi Phi Le, Thailand
Filled with hidden lagoons and cliffs that tumble down to the sea, this island could be your dream escape. With low temperatures in January varying around 22 degrees Celsius, it is perfect for lazing around on one of the gorgeous beaches. While you’re there, you should definitely go snorkeling as the sea life is incredible here.
