Costa Rica is a gorgeous country, tucked between the shorelines of the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean. It has a super expansive shoreline, which means that the beaches of Costa Rica are very diverse, with many different characteristics. Everyone will find something unique to discover about the varying beaches, from white sand paradises filled with palm trees to volcanic black sand.
Manuel Antonio Beach borders the Manuel Antonio National Park, which is a coastal rainforest filled with wildlife. This beach is one of the most popular destinations in Costa Rica. If you’re interested in exploring the rainforest, it takes roughly 30 minutes to hike from the park’s entrance to Manuel Antonio Beach. At this beach, you are guaranteed to see some wildlife, particularly monkeys. Don’t forget to bring your snorkeling gear here, because the coral seascape is not to be missed!
This beach is perfect for the surfers out there. At Tamarindo beach, you can catch the perfect wave. But it is also a great beach for beginner surfers, so don’t let the reputation of the town scare you. While you’re there, make sure to explore the town of Tamarindo where you can explore some of the local cuisine.
Looking for a beach that is less frequented and calmer? Then Conchal beach might be ideal for you! The shoreline of this beach is sprinkled with white sand and tiny seashells. Once again, bring your snorkeling gear here because you won’t want to miss out on all the coral and underwater discoveries you can make.
Ostional beach has black sand due to the volcano there. One would say that this beach belongs to the turtles of Costa Rica because of the annual mass turtle nesting between July and October. This happening occurs from 4 to as much as 10 times a year and the timing can be somewhat unpredictable. If you want to see the turtles, we’d suggest asking a Costa Rica expert first.
Nacascolo beach is a hidden gem on the Papagayo Peninsula. The golden stretch of sand here is gorgeous. If you’re staying at a hotel nearby, make sure to grab a kayak and explore! Make sure to plan your food and drinks ahead, as there is no place to buy them at the beach. The water at this beach is very calm and protected, so it is ideal for swimming, paddle boarding, kayaking and of course snorkeling.
