Living by the sea has many perks, and one of them is all the water sports you can do daily. The options are endless! Some of them are easy to pick up quickly, and some require more skills and experience. There are so many you for you to try out, below we dive into 5 of our favorites that we think are the most fun!
Using the power of the wind to lift the sails and move the boat forward, how epic. So much technique goes into sailing, but it is truly one of the best activities to do while at sea. Feeling the movement of the wind in combination with the waves is a feeling that cannot be described. One of the best ways to truly feel the strength of the water and the wind. Plus, there are many different versions. You can try it out on a big monohull boat, a catamaran, or you can downsize and try it out on a sailing dinghy which is usually only for one or two people. Even though it may take some time to learn, this one is definitely worth getting into, it really is a wonderful sport.
Surfing is another exciting water sport, catching the breaking waves on a surfboard is exhilarating. Gliding across the surface of the water until the wave goes down, this activity can be done in many bodies of water that can create waves but doing it in the sea is the true experience. This one also requires some skill, and it’s always a good idea to start with small waves. But seeing surfers ride huge waves is truly thrilling.
Can’t decide between sailing and surfing? Want to do both? Why not try wind surfing! Wind surfing is a combination of surfing and sailing, you have a surfboard with a sail fixed on it. To move the board forward, you should manage the sail based on the movement of the wind and manoeuvre the waves to control the board. This way, you get the best of both worlds between sailing and surfing!
A jet ski is like a water motorcycle, it is powered by an engine and travels on the surface on the water. It doesn’t take much skill to ride it, you can get on and with just a little practice you can be quickly confident on it. Although it should be used carefully, as jet skis can reach fast speeds very quickly. But I can guarantee that you will feel epic whilst riding one!
This one is similar to surfing, but you are being pulled by a fast-moving boat. You ride the waves created by the boat that’s pulling you, and with some practice you can even start doing tricks on it. Wind surfing also requires some skill, but it is very easy to pick-up with some practice!
Which ones sound the most interesting to you? Our favourite will forever be sailing, but we still love all the rest quite a bit as well. If you haven’t tried them, give it a go next time you’re near a sea. You won’t regret it!
